The use of wireless devices and control solutions is wide-spread nowadays, particularly in the computing world with wireless mice, controllers and similar devices. It is no different when Televisions and home theatre products are involved however, and these types of solutions are equally as convenient as in other technological areas. Remote controls have of course always provided this convenience, so it is hardly anything new. However, having a different remote control for each product has often proved problematic for users.

There is no need to have separates remote controls however, as a single universal remote will provide the same functionality and result in less confusion for owners. It is not only greatly convenient to have a single remote for everything, from Blu-Ray to TV, but it will also be more cost effective when needing to replace batteries. Saving space is also important and owning one single remote for everything will allow you to do just that.

Types of Universal Remotes

There are various universal remotes available, and they will allow to control a different number of devices. There are some which replace up to 4 remotes while others will go all the way up to 15 remotes. Having a single controller for 15 devices could mean you will not need a remote for any device which you decide to purchase in the future, and TV, music listening and gaming could all be done with one single control device.

Universal remotes can cost up to £150 or more, so it is wise to know what you require beforehand. There are also very cheap controls available for those who don't have such hefty requirements.

How Easy is it to Program a Universal Remote

These control devices will come with a manual, so it is just a matter of reading how to program them. It is not hugely difficult but it will require you to invest some time to learn your particular control device purchased. Programming is done via particular codes inputted, which will correspond to various available brands of remotes.

Modern Universal remote controls will be able to receive updates via internet, which will add to the overall convenience value of the units. This means that you don't need to input these codes manually and will save time during this process. Of course, the more you are willing to spend the more advanced the unit is likely to be.

Ultimately, it is up to you to choose which unit you want. If you don't have many devices and are not a technophile, one of the cheapest universal remotes should amply suffice. Owning a universal remote control will prove to be convenient for absolutely anyone, since our lives are centred around technology even for those who are not particularly apt at using it. Controlling every device with one single unit will ensure less headaches on your part.
