Peru is one of the world's top destinations for trekking and there are so many different places to visit. But just where should you go and when is the best time to visit? Read on to find out more about this wonderful country.

When to Go

In fact, this is a destination that you can visit throughout the year. However, there are different regions that are better visited at certain times in Peru. Trek organisers will be well versed in the most advantageous times to travel but here is a brief overview for your planning.

Along the coast there is very little rain throughout the year, and the only place that gets really cold is Lima. January is the hottest time of the year here, which makes it a good time to visit.

The Andes is more seasonal, and from December to March it is the rainy season; June to September are drier, and that's more or less the same case in the jungle. Try to visit in the dry season, if you can, but just be aware that July and August also receive the most visitors.

Essentially, you don't have to focus too much on the time of year when travelling here. There is no time when you cannot enjoy the natural wonders of this incredible country, so plan your trip for whenever it is suitable for you.

Where to Go

Few other countries offer such riches when it comes to natural and manmade attractions, so take your pick in Peru! Trek more remote areas, or stroll around the vibrant and bustling cities – the way you explore is up to you.

The Nazca Lines are the world-famous shapes that were created as far back as 200 BC. They are so large that, in fact, they were only discovered from the air. You can visit them by heading to the town of Nazca on the coast.

Machu Picchu attracts thousands of tourists who come to marvel at the ancient Inca site – the jewel of Peru. Trek to the finish and the prize awaiting is an incredible sight to behold.

You shouldn't miss the chance to visit Lake Titicaca to see the Uros people living on their artificial island homes. These amazing islands are made from reeds, with the inhabitants constantly adding new reeds to keep them afloat.

The adventurous traveller will not miss an excursion into the jungle, which is some of the best on the continent. You can head to Iquitos, which is the starting point for a boat trip into the Amazon - you cannot get here by road, however, so you will have to fly or take a boat.

You could finish your adventure by heading to Máncora on the northern coast. There are some great waves for surfing, or you could just chill out and relax on one of the best beaches in Peru. Trek itineraries should be carefully considered to take in as many of the diverse natural wonders as possible in this spectacular country – but many people find they simply need to come back for more!
