La Tania: Off-Piste Skiing and Other Adventure Activities

La Tania is one of the most popular ski resorts in France. If you book accommodation in one of the catered chalets you'll be spoiled for choice - there are plenty available. You may well be heading here to ski, but at times you may want to get away from the pistes and do something a bit different. Here is a guide to the off-piste action and some of the more adventurous activities.

Top Spots for Going Off-Piste

The resort has many excellent pistes for all levels, but if you are a bit of an expert, you may want to head off-piste for an adventure - and the resort caters for you perfectly in that department.

Anyone staying in one of the catered chalets in La Tania has a number of areas to choose from for off-piste action. Méribel Valley is one of the best, and you can visit using your Three Valleys pass. Some runs go from the Col de la Loze and head down to Méribel Valley; this is a tricky area with a steep chute, so you need to be especially careful.

Plumbers Crack is another great spot just above Col de la Loze. It is a bit of a trek to get there, but it is one of the most popular off-piste runs in the area. There is also Dou Des Lanches, which is a black run with lots of drop-offs (this one is definitely for the more experienced skiers).

Other Activities to Get Your Heart Racing

Want to get off the ground altogether? Another great activity you could enjoy while on a ski holiday in one of La Tania's catered chalets is paragliding! Arrange your trip at Col de la Loze, and you'll get some lessons followed by an afternoon of fun. There's noting quite as exhilarating as floating high above La Tania and surveying the resort from the air.

Snow shoeing is a slightly slower-paced activity, but it is a great way to see the surrounding area. Be warned, however - it's hard work so you'll need to be in good shape. Strap on the shoes and venture out on the Teppes Footpath or the Chevreuils Track to enjoy a day out in the wilderness.

Another option for some fast and furious fun is snowmobiling – it's also a great way to see more of the surrounding area. During the ski season, expeditions leave every day from Chardons Loisirs.

And Just Chill Out…

Once you've had your kicks out in the snow, you'll want to relax in the evening. As well as a great selection of catered chalets, the resort has some very pleasant bars and restaurants to spend the evenings in. Get a drink and a bite to eat in Pub Le Ski Lodge, or head to Hotel Telemark or La Taiga. Talk long into the night about your adventures before heading out again the next day to do it all again!
