Austria is a very popular destination for walking enthusiasts, and it is the perfect place to spend a holiday exploring on foot. Walking in Austria provides you with stunning scenery and an invigorating experience, but just where should you go to enjoy the best places? Here are three of the best areas.

1. Stubai Valley

The Stubai Valley is one of the most beautiful places to go walking in Austria. The incredibly picturesque surroundings are incredibly peaceful and the area is a paradise for people of all ages and abilities.

You could base yourself at Fulpmes, which is not far from Innsbruck, and from here you can spend time exploring the surrounding area at your leisure. You will discover picturesque meadows, woodland, beautiful villages, cows grazing, stunning views and mighty summits.

Some walks are quite challenging, taking you through rivers, lakes, mountains and waterfalls. You can also travel up on the cable cars up to see the views and climb even higher if you’re feeling adventurous.

2. Upper Inn Valley

This area is another great option for walking in Austria. You could easily spend a week or two here and still have plenty left to see! You may want to start by visiting Ladis, a quiet village at an altitude of 1,200 metres, which is home to an ancient castle.

From here you can go up to the Komperdell ridge in a cable car, and then wander alongside the spectacular Weisssee glacier, or enjoy some more challenging walks if you have the energy. You can stroll along established footpaths through the stunning alpine scenery, enjoying the woodland and mountain streams, and stopping to enjoy the amazing views. You can also visit villages like Serfaus and Fiss.
