Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque

The imposing Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world, built by Oman’s current ruler Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said and opened in 2001 to mark 30 years of the ruler’s reign. Set on a rocky outcrop, Mutrah Fort dates back to the 1580s during the city’s Portuguese rule. Al Jalali Fort

Similar to Muttrah Fort, Al Jalali Fort was built during Oman’s Portuguese reign, and it’s one of the most famous landmarks in Muscat with incredible ancient architecture reflecting the region’s rich history. Once a prison, Al Jalali Fort is now a private museum space available only to dignitaries, so visitors can only view this castle-like building from the outside. The historic fortress offers some beautiful vistas of the harbour, especially at sunrise and sunset.
