When choosing business to business telemarketing call centre to handle outbound marketing activities, is it better to use telemarketing services specialists in the same industry sector as your business or the telemarketing company that offers the best results?

Some telemarketing companies will claim to be experts in ‘this’ and specialists in ‘that’ but they will do this to get your business. More often than not, they do not have the required experience in your particular industry sector but they want your business and will go to great lengths to get it.

The easiest way to make sure that an outsource service provider has the required knowledge in your field is to ask for references; any respectable and professional call centre will be happy to provide the references – just be sure to check them out thoroughly. A poor attempt at telemarketing a product or service that is not fully understood will be a complete waste of time and money.

Many telemarketing services providers genuinely do find a niche and do have the right to call themselves specialists. Certain telemarketing companies will find a niche and perfect their skills in, for example, the legal sector or financial sector. Other telemarketing companies will concentrate on providing business to consumer services whereas other companies will not touch this type of work, preferring to work in the business to business telemarketing arena.

If you approach a number of telemarketing companies about your campaign, the ones that know more about your industry sector will discuss realistic targets with you as they will have a genuine understanding of how successful a particular type of campaign will be. If, however, the company takes time to explain the obstacles involved in financial services telemarketing and sets realistic expectations, chances are they know what they are talking about. This is not to say that telemarketing does not work in the accountancy industry. It does work, and it works very well, but the results are not usually immediate.

The same applies to every industry sector; if the telemarketing company has experience in the relevant industry sector, the chances of the campaign being a success are much higher as the agents are aware of the pitfalls and have already established which objections they will come across.

An experienced telemarketer combined with existing industry knowledge is a very powerful tool and will have a huge beneficial impact on your business. Just be wary of the call centres that promise the earth as they often deliver very little!
