Established back in 1070, the Temple of Literature is the first national university of Vietnam, which was built to honour the ancient Chinese teacher and philosopher Confucius and his disciples. The university became Vietnam’s Imperial Academy, and today the site comprises of many beautiful buildings with traditional Vietnamese architecture, pavilions, shrines, statues, historic courtyards and gardens, honouring the finest scholars and the educational system of Vietnam.

Imperial Citadel of Thang Long

The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was originally built in the 11th century, during the Ly Viet Dynasty. This interesting ancient complex comprises of various architectural structures and gardens from a number of historic periods across centuries, including important political events in Vietnam. The most recognisable features of the citadel are its imposing Doan Gate and flag tower.
