A Santo Thomas Holiday - A Quieter Menorca Experience

For a great option for a more laidback, somewhat quieter Menorca summer holiday, why not consider a Santo Thomas holiday? This compact little resort is much smaller than many of the others, but is ideally located for exploration of the rest of the island. Indeed, many people who enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of a smaller, more intimate resort choose a Santo Thomas holiday.

There is little more than one main street in the resort but there are some lovely bars and restaurants – with a much quieter ambience than in some of the other larger places on the island. You certainly get more of a local feel here too, with fewer tourists and less organised activity taking place. Although the resort may be smaller, the beach certainly isn’t - the stunning stretch of beach continues along to Son Bou, three kilometres away.

Beach Fun

The beach is beautiful and very well kept. The water is clear and the swimming areas are watched over by lifeguards who are very vigilant in watching for changes in the currents, in order to issue appropriate warnings. Watersports are available too, and whether you are into scuba diving, jet skiing, or simply pottering around on a pedalo, there is something for everyone. For families with young children, it is a good idea to hire a parasol to protect against the midday sun, and for avid sunbathers there are sun loungers to hire as well.

A Trip to the Capital

A trip to island’s capital of Mahon should definitely be scheduled in to the itinerary. In less than an hour you can be in the lovely capital city, ready to spend a day exploring its museums, visiting the Santa Maria Cathedral or indulging in a little shopping. The city squares hum with busy cafes, and you can visit the 18th century Xorihuer Gin Distillery. Al fresco dining is a must, so choose a harbor-side restaurant and enjoy local delicacies and a wonderful view.

A Santo Thomas holiday can be as relaxed or active as you like, and for those wanting a little more activity, the resort of Son Bou is just a pleasant 15-minute walk away. Son Bou is bigger and a little livelier (although still relatively laidback) but is still an excellent place for families. The beach here is recognised as one of the best (and certainly the longest) on the island, with plenty of watersports available. However, all this said, if you want your Santo Thomas holiday to follow a more sedate pace, you can simply enjoy the authentic ambience close to home, where there are fewer tourists and a low-key, tranquil atmosphere.
