Neve Tzedek is currently the number 1 tourist attraction in Tel Aviv on TripAdvisor, and it’s easy to understand why… It’s one of the city’s oldest regions best known for its charming streets lined with local boutiques, cafes and ice-cream parlours and also boasts street art murals, well-preserved historic houses, museums and an old railway station. It’s the perfect destination for sightseeing and exploration. Here’s a guide to the highlights of Neve Tzedek, why you should go ahead and book Tel Aviv flights from UK with Brightsun Travel and how to potentially base your stay here.

History of Neve Tzedek

Neve Tzedek was the first Jewish settlement organization outside Jaffa established back in 1887, many years before the city of Tel Aviv existed. The region itself was sought out to be a peaceful residential neighbourhood away from the crowds of Jaffa, and with that came the creation of pastel coloured low-rise buildings across its narrow laneways. In the early 1900s Neve Tzedek became a residing place for renowned writers, artists and architects, some of which have now set up their own businesses here at private galleries, cafes and shops.

Must-Visit Attractions

Nahum Gutman Museum of Art

This impressive museum is set in Tel Aviv’s first Writer’s House, paying tribute to Nahum Gutman, one of the most famous artists and authors in Israel. The exhibitions here display Gutman’s masterpieces, highlighting the diversity of his works which includes paintings, illustrations, writing works and sculptures. The museum also displays artworks from other 20th century artists and has a gift shop on site.

Rokach House Museum

The Rokach House Museum is set in the heart of Neve Tzedek in a restored 19th century home, dedicated to the neighbourhood itself and its history. This excellent cultural centre and architectural wonder was named after one of Neve Tzedek’s Jewish founders, Shimon Rokach and displays a number of his granddaughter’s artworks, as well as original furniture, clothing, photographs and film screenings depicting Neve Tzedek’s early settlement days.

Suzanne Dellal Center

The iconic Suzanne Dellal Center is a major performing arts venue of Tel Aviv which has been the site of many renowned dance performances. It’s also the home of the Batsheva Dance Company, one of the most famous dance troupes in Israel. The centre also often hosts colourful cultural festivals and events. We recommend that you book tickets for a performance here or even just take a stroll around the scenic courtyard.

Where to Stay in Neve Tzedek

There are only a select few hotels in the little region of Neve Tzedek; we would recommend a stay at InterContinental David Tel Aviv, a premium high-rise hotel set nearby a number of shops and bars with elegant rooms, delicious breakfast options, a signature restaurant and a luxurious spa. The Neve Tzedek Hotel is another excellent accommodation option; this stylish boutique property is centrally located and is set in a well preserved historic building, comprising of just five suites; please note that there is a minimum stay of two nights required here.
