There are certainly plenty of places to stay while vacationing in Sicily. Villas, however, are the best way to enjoy all the attractions the island has to offer, at your own pace. Finding the right location can be a bit challenging, though – especially when you want to get away from the hordes of fellow travellers that inevitably come to the isle during peak season.

So without further ado, here are five hidden gems on the island where your accommodation will have great views, excellent amenities and wondrous local attractions to visit.

Castellammare Del Golfo

Castellammare Del Golfo is located in the northwestern part of the island, and is becoming increasingly popular thanks to its proximity to Palermo and Trapani. This makes it an ideal destination for tourists looking for a prime spot to easily travel to and from while in Sicily. Villas and cottages with jaw-dropping views of the sea are available, while local attractions include its golden-sanded beach and the famous Castle of Castellammare.

Letojanni

This hilly seaside municipality is located on the northeastern coast of Sicily. Villas here get a commanding view of the Ionian Sea, thanks to the hilly terrain surrounding the coast, and its proximity to popular tourist spots such as Gallodoro and Taormina make it an even more attractive choice. The pebbled beach also serves as a great place to relax and soak up some sun while the waves lap gently over your legs. It is also boasts some of the best gelato shops on the island – the perfect treat for cooling down at your leisure!

Montargano Mascali

If you are looking for the peace and tranquillity of a small community that not too many people know about, then the village of Montargano in the province of Mascali is where you’ll want to visit in Sicily. Villas here may be quieter and free from the bustle of the more popular communities around the isle, but just as accommodating as those you will find elsewhere. Robust vineyards and colourful orchards complete the calming agrarian feel of the village.

Scopello

Scopello is technically a part of Castellammare Del Golfo, but it is worth mentioning on its own thanks to its proximity to the Risarva Naturale Dello Zingaro. Simply put, this is where lovers of all forms of natural beauty will want to visit. Scopello opens up to gorgeous views - not just of the Tyrrhenian Sea, but rolling coastal hills, fantastic gardens and majestic forests.

Piedimonte Etneo

Looking for accommodations that will give you a great view of the rumbling volcanic power of Etna? If so, you will most definitely want to explore Piedimont Etneo as a choice. This commune offers amazing views of the stratovolcano, which literally touches the clouds and is the highest mountain in Italy south of the Alps. It doesn’t hurt that Piedimont Etneo is a coastal commune – meaning you get a great view of the Ionian coast as well.

Keep these destinations in mind when considering low-key accommodations on this lovely island; they will serve well in striking a balance between tranquillity and access to the other tourist hotspots around the island.
