Everything you need to know before visiting Kanha National Park

Tourism is one of the much-talked-about aspects of the Kanha National Park. It has brought much-needed limelight to this region rich in natural wealth. The tiger is the main attraction but the reserve has much more to offer. A holistic approach benefits the tourists in understanding how ecosystems work.

Tourism is a learning interface for the uninitiated it is a window to conservation. The preserve has more than twenty-two mammalian species. The park is home to more than two hundred and fifty birds, many reptilian species, and thousands of insects.

Mega Fauna is seen on tiger safari is the tiger, panther, sloth bear, wild dogs, barking deer, wild boar, Hanuman Langur, jungle cat, sambar deer, barasingha, and many others.

The tourism or tiger safari in the Kanha takes place on open jeeps as trekking is not allowed. The visitors enter through the assigned gate and the excursion takes place in a given area. The ride gives the visitors ample scope to sight animals and birds. This is an excellent opportunity to get the feel of the jungle, enjoy the pristine beauty, and find tigers.

The gate entrance to a zone is assigned during the booking. You can choose from available zones whence booking your park entry. The most preferred zone is the Kanha Zone which is costlier. The other zones in the park are Mukki, Sarhi, and Kisli. Jeep hire for safari can be arranged during your stay or at the gate.

Jeep safaris are costly hence you need to share if alone. The safari is of longer duration during the day while in the evening it is shorter. When you enter the Kanha National Park a forest guide is a necessary accompaniment but if you wish you can take a trained naturalist with you.

During the winter you need a lot of warm clothing on safaris. You need to carry edibles as well as mineral water since it is not available in the park. You must carry books on nature as well as binoculars and scopes.

When traveling for wildlife watching make sure that your jeep safaris are booked in advance. There is a limit to the number of jeeps that can enter each gate. In the holiday season, you can find the entries blocked due to rush.

When in the forest you need keen eyesight and hearing to spot the animals. Some animals are easily seen but it takes a lot of effort to see rare animals. They have excellent camouflage hence attention can be rewarding.

Tigers are often located by the sounds they make. They can also be tracked by the alarm cries that ring when the big cat is around. The alarm cries of other animals are a warning of the tiger's presence this increases your chance of spotting the animal.

Wildlife Interpretation Centers

Kanha National Park has two wildlife interpretation centers. Designed using modern technology the centers are based at the Khatia Gate in Kisli Range and at Kanha Range. The latter is well equipped along with a natural history museum and a wildlife movie hall there are a large number of pictures of tigers, birds, mammals, and other species. A light and sound show is the latest attraction. The centers are open during the daytime and no fee is charged.

For visitors not informed about the ecosystems and food chains, these centers are eye-openers. At Khatia The Gate there is an electronic playback of sound recordings of various birds and animals. It also contains photographs of wild animals birds, reptiles, and mammals in the park.

Before taking a safari in the jungles of India you must read a lot. Understanding wildlife is key to enjoying it.
