We all are familiar how iPads and iPhones work - the storage space is limited and this requires you to do a cleanup occasionally. Every program and app that you have installed upon your iDevice that is obsolete or unnecessary needs to be removed. This means that now that you have created all the clutter on your iPad or iPhone needs to be removed.

Let us understand how you should de-clutter your iDevice and remove unnecessary files:

About App Storage

You know that the ‘Usage screen’ is where you will be able to see the storage space. You can determine how much space is occupied in your device. For this go to Settings-> General Category->Usage.

Each app will have a number against it that determines the space it has occupied. Details like cached documents, media files and application files will be there. All you need to do is tap the relevant app for which you need detailed information.

Deleting

Now what you need to do is delete unnecessary apps that are consuming storage space unnecessarily. First one to deal with is obsolete games that are large in size and are not being used by you currently. Then comes the apps that are no longer in use that too can be deleted, just go to the app and hit ‘Delete App’ button.

App related data

You have already deleted the app but you might not know the fact that there is still data left. Even after deletion there might be traces of the app that needs to be dealt with. The Documents & Data is some space that shows you the space acquired by the data an app has. All the relevant files that are created by the app including the app itself are stored here. This means that you need to clean it up too for freeing space.

Go to the App and then Settings-> Clear Downloaded Files that will erase the stored copies that are downloaded. Remember that not every app data can be erased in this manner, as this option is not available for every app. You can simply delete and reinstall an app if it is too heavy.

Erasing Media Files

Media files that include podcasts, pictures, videos and music acquire a significant space in your iDevice which also needs to be removed. For any of these applications you need to individually go to the app and then see how much space is taken up. For example, you can go to Videos app and see the storage space that is consumed by each video file that you have stored. Delete each file individually - same can be done with podcasts and music or pictures.

For Music, you can individually delete songs in your Music app by a left swipe and hitting ‘Delete.’

Browsing History

Browsing history is the history of your browsing that is stored as soon as you are done with surfing. Safari app is the place where you will find the history of Internet surfing. For deleting it you need to go to the Website Data-> Remove All Website Data, this will help you remove cookies and cache. Now for offline usage, you need to swipe left when you are in Offline Reading List and delete the data from there.

These simple tips will help you free space on your iDevice easily. You can apply it without any hassle, as it does not require you to be a tech expert. However, for more on organizing your apps on your iPhone or iPad you need to seek technical assistance.
