Knowing in-depth about colour blindness

When we search online to read about colour blindness in various scientific booksit is described as a situation or a case of deficiency in which the subject cannot see or distinguish different colours properly. This generally happens whenpeople are unable to distinguish or differentiate between the group of main colours. Patients are unable to identity major colours like red, green and blue.

The problem exists in the retina of the eyes of the patient. There are two major types of cells in the retina that catch light and process it for the person to be able to see properly. One of the cells are rods – that are very delicate and sensitive to dim lighting. The other is the cone cells that are responsible for reading colours and transmit the signal to the brain through nerves for colour justification. As mentioned above there are 3 major groups of colours which creates confusion and those colours are red, blue and green. One of the key reasons which causes this deficiency is that when one or more colour cones are not present.

There are several layers of degrees in colour blindness. Some people suffer from mild colour blindness disorders in which they are unable to see mild colours and further they cannot differentiate it. In this case the patient is able to see in light but cannot see properly under dim light. Another case is totally opposite because in this case subject cannot completely differentiate between any colour. This kind of represents complete colour blindness.

Colour blindness test

There are two ways of testing for colour blindness.

  1. Ishihara colour vision test helps to understand if a person has a fundamental issue with distinguishing colours. In the test, multiple coloured dots are depicted. If the subject is having problem then he or she won't be able to see the coloured shapes and numbers showcased in the group of coloured dots.
  2. For more information and analysis of colour blindness in the eyes, the method of Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test is conducted.

Advanced clinics in the country today use the CAD or the Colour Assessment and Diagnosis Test for colour blindness testing in India.

Major Signs

It has a wide range from mild to fatal or serious. This type of deformity can only be supervised by the parents when they are young.There are different conditions which are responsible for the issue.

  1. Lazy eye
  2. Way stagmus
  3. Poor vision

These problems generally arise due to disease, trauma or over-use of intoxicated substances which includes several drugs and can also occur due to vascular diseases.

Colour blindness treatments are not available unfortunately to eradicate the root cause of the disease. Contact lenses and glasses are created with inculcates various filters for the proper identification of various colours. Most people are able to distinguish between a variety of colours, wearing these visual aids. In depth research is further going on to find out proper treatment methods so that patients can be treated of the issue medically.

In India treatment for colour blindness is being carried out now after extensive researches to get fruitful results that are helping can save patients with colour blindness issues.
