B&B represents Bed and breakfast. A B&B is an accommodation facility for an overnight stay with the arrangement of breakfast. For most tourists, getting up and leaving the lodging facility on an empty stomach is not a very pleasing idea. Whereas a guesthouse is an accommodation facility that is similar in nature to a hotel but much cheaper. In different countries, guest houses have different facilities and features but one feature that is common all over is the facility of a room with beds to sleep overnight. In some places, guest houses are simply lodging facilities with no other facilities while in some place’s food may be included in the charges.

Many people do not understand the differences between guesthouses and B&B as both provide accommodation and some other facilities. This article attempts to highlight the differences between a guest house and B&B. Here are some of the differences between a guesthouse and a B&B.

Size

Firstly, the sizes of these two are different. A guesthouse is generally a larger property with more than 5 bedrooms. It is basically a small hotel and is usually owner-operated. The host might live on the premises. Larger guest houses have common guest areas such as a lounge and dining room. Whereas a B&Bs are generally smaller than a guest house, and normally accommodate no more than 6 guests. There is no restaurant or bar. Most of them are reasonably priced.

Ownership

Guesthouses tend to be owner-managed, due to their size, in spite of certain nations like South Africa, guest houses can be very large mansions indeed. South Africa likewise has a particular rating system for accommodation establishments. Whereas B&Bs may be operated either as a secondary source of income or a primary occupation. Usually, the owners themselves prepare breakfast. Clean the room, but some bed and breakfasts hire staff for cleaning or cooking.

Services rendered

B & B include only breakfast while guest houses can supply evening dinners and frequently have as already suggested a licensed bar. Usually, like any other type of accommodation guest houses are charged with a local star system rating from one to five. The gradation scale is based upon the quality of service and hospitality, the level of cleanness, the excellence of supplied meals, and whether or not an en-suite bathroom is available.

In conclusion, both guest houses, as well as B&B, provide accommodation facilities to inmates, whereas B&Bs have an additional attractive feature of the next morning breakfast, which may not be there in guest houses. Guesthouses are made specially to cater to the lodging requirements of travelers, whereas B&B are private homes where rooms are converted to provide accommodation to guests. B&B is described by tourists as more homely than guesthouses. Guesthouses have staff and sometimes the license to serve liquor too. B&B is mostly a family-operated commercial activity where a guest is like a friend.
