Henry Ford has played an important role in the automobile industry and mass production assembly line. He took off the production of the Model T automobile in the year 1908 after building the Model A design in the year 1903. The main concept used here for the production of the different models was assembling interchangeable parts of the components which was not the case earlier. With the help of the innovative designs offered by Ford, the number of skilled fitters needed to form the bulk of the assembly operation. Hence, giving him a competitive edge in the market.

Innovation At Its Best

The technique used by Henry Ford helped them to perform a lot better than the competitors. They were able to deliver the parts in the Model A to the workstation and complete the assembly task within 8.5 hours. On the other hand, they decided to improve their performance and hence launched Model T. There the company planned to use various assembly stands with assemblers that move from one stand to other and they would be designed to perform a specific function. And the ‘wow’ factor that came up with the use of Model T is reduced time.

It reduced the time from 8.5 hours to 2.5 minutes.

Yes, you read that right. Hence, it can be implied that Henry Ford has revolutionized the automobile industry with his thinking power, innovation, and hard work.

Use Of Effective Raw Materials

Not only in the technique, but they have also worked well on the raw materials. They generally use petroleum-based products containing vinyl and plastics; virgin steel. In this also, they have been able to reduce the weights of the materials by 30%. They have been producing more efficient vehicles.

Design That Met All Pubic Needs

Henry Ford had a brilliant mind that was able to think out of the box. His design had been able to meet all the preferences and fulfill all the needs. He had farsightedness and thought about the needs which would arise in the public after 5 years of the current time. He visualized the appearance of the proposed vehicles with the help of technology like computer-aided design equipment, conceptual drawings are more. Then his company stepped to the process of constructing clay models and design as per the needs and wants of the public. We all should learn from the way he used to think. The aerodynamic engineers then reviewed all the technical details like feasibility levels, air-flow parameters, grinding of automobiles for shining, and many more. After all these things, they reached the final stage of manufacturing the components parts.

Comprehensive Manufacturing Process

Various stages are associated with the manufacturing process of the component parts of the new model.

1. Components: There were many companies that outsourced the components from thousands of outside suppliers. The Ford Company also used to sometimes assemble the component parts after getting it delivered from various suppliers or even company-owned parts suppliers.

2. Chassis: The technique used here was ground up and out. Then at the base was the frame which generally placed on the assembly line. It was then clamped to conveyer to reduce the chances of moving it from its place. Moreover, everything including gas tanks, rear axles, gearboxes, wheel drums, grinding wheels of automobiles for shining, all were installed in the component assembly areas.

3. Vehicle Engine and its Transmission: The installation of the heavy components of the vehicles was mostly done with the help of the robotic arms.

Many more comprehensive steps are involved in the process. This includes fixing the clamps and assembling the component parts. When they are ready, the component parts are then painted to give them shine. Then, in the end, quality is checked by the engineers.

The Bottom Line

So, it is a very extensive procedure to follow. But nothing seems difficult when you have the passion and the zeal to achieve something. There are more things than just working in the same direction. Listening to your heart and intuition is one. One must not worry about the bad experiences and failure; they are the best teachers in life. The tough days will pay off.
