Safe Abortion Techniques - Things To Know
Posted: Oct 27, 2014
Abortion can be done in many ways and is successfully being carried out in hospitals and nursing homes throughout the world. However, in order for the abortion to be a success, one must ensure that safe abortion techniques are used, or it might prove fatal for the woman undergoing it.
- Use of suction
The first safe technique used for abortion is that by suction where a special tube is inserted into the womb through the cervix and vagina with or without making the woman unconscious. Many a times, pain-killers are injected in the cervix to reduce pain. A small syringe is used if the fetus is removed with the manual vacuum aspiration whereas an electric machine is used in the surgical one. This is a safe procedure which takes less than 10 minutes to be performed and is safest in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy.
- Scraping method
Another safe technique is abortion that is done by scraping where the pregnancy is removed by scraping it out with a small instrument which is spoon shaped and known as a curette. This instrument is specially designed to enter the womb. In order to use this sharp instrument, the cervix must first be stretched open which can be a little painful. The procedure takes around 20 minutes and is generally done in operation theaters by making the woman unconscious.
- Medical abortion
The last technique for a safe abortion is that by use of medications which is known as medical abortion. The womb contracts when the woman consumes these oral medications and pushes out the fetus or pregnancy. Medical abortion is considered to be very safe and effective, and it reduces the chances of any infection in the womb as nothing is directly put inside it. One should however know the right medicines to take along with its correct dosage. Such abortions are most effective in the first nine weeks of pregnancy.
There are different types of abortion available and thus, a common question for you would be to ask which method of abortion is the best. Quite frankly, taking abortion pills are one of the safest and easiest methods for an abortion. However, you need to remember that every method has its pros and cons. So, if you do take in an abortion pill, do know that this would be an irreversible process. Similarly, abortion through surgery will cause some pains and you need to take a note of that.
