Transportation in Paris

Paris' public transport network is considered one of the best in the world. With 16 metro lines, 347 bus lines (of which 31 are night buses), 6 tram lines and 5 metro lines paris monmarte-1400 suburban lines, you can reach any point in the city.

The network is mainly managed by RATP (www.ratp.fr) but some suburban lines are managed by SNCF (www.sncf.com).

You can also have the entire Paris public transport network at your fingertips by downloading the RATP application on your smart phone, where you have all the information you need for your journeys (traffic news, closed roads, maps, bus routes, recommended routes...).

Arc de Triumph Paris 1-1400The ticket price is uniform for travel within the city walls. You can buy tickets for your journeys at the metro cashiers.

The ticket costs 1.7 euros*. But you can save money by buying 10 tickets which will cost you 13.7 euros*. If you buy your ticket from a bus driver, the cost will be €2*. It is also not possible to buy 10 tickets from a bus driver, so make sure you are stocked up before you take a bus.

The ticket lasts for two hours, as long as you have not left the metro network. If you want to take a bus after using the metro, you will need a new ticket.

The metro runs every day with the same frequency, even on public holidays. It starts around 6 in the morning and stops around 12:30 at night. On Fridays and Saturdays, service stops around 2am. On strike days, traffic is reduced, but the means of transport is still in operation.

Pass "Paris visite"

The "Paris visite" pass is valid for 1, 2, 3 or 5 consecutive days for zones 1 to 3 or 1 to 6. (The pass for zones 6 includes travel to Charles de Gaulle, Orly and Disneyland.) The pass is given with a nominal card. You can buy it and indicate the date from which you will start using it. The use starts counting from the moment you use it for the first time, not from the moment you buy it (price: 12 euros*).

Navigo Pass

The Navigo pass is weekly or monthly, for zones 1 and 2, 1 to 3, 1 to 4, 1 to 5 or 1 to 6. It is a name card which is accompanied by your photo.

Weekly pass

valid only from Monday to Friday. You can buy it until Wednesday for use in the current week and from Friday for use in the following week (price: €20.4*).

Monthly pass: valid for one calendar month. You can buy it from the 20th of the previous month and until the 19th for the current month (price: EUR 67.1*).

Taxi:

You can find a taxi on the street and stop it, you can also find it at a taxi station ("taxi stand") which are located in different parts of the city. In this map you can see the places where the taxi stations are located

At each taxi station there is a telephone number you can use: call 01 45 30 30 30. With this system you order a taxi near where you are.

Directions from Charles de Gaulle Airport

Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG), also called Roissy Airport, is the largest airport in France and the second busiest in Europe. The Paris airport taxi ride from CDG airport to the centre of Paris takes about 50 minutes, with smooth traffic on the streets. The city centre is approximately 34 km from the airport. So, once your taxi has started, you will head towards Bd Périphérique and then take the exit to the centre of Paris until you reach Quai de Bercy. Finally, you will use local roads to reach the exact location of your destination.

Bicycle:

bike paris-1400The Velib' are the bicycles of the municipality of Paris that you can use for your commute. For daily use the cost is 1.7 euros* and for weekly use the cost is 8 euros*. You can buy a ticket at the specially arranged bicycle stations located in many parts of the city.
