Sydney is often termed as the urban jungle for its incredible combination of modern infrastructure and pristine natural wonders. This cosmopolitan city is blessed with an impressive art and culture scene and a vibrant population and is packed with opportunities. You could easily spend a month here and still find new things to do and see every week. From art galleries and harbour cruises to islands, here are some top picks to add to your list of things to do in Sydney.

Dinner/Lunch Cruises

The vast coastline of Sydney is dotted with numerous tourist attractions and the harbour is the main centre of focus by a long mile. The harbour sees millions of tourists every year from around the world and has more than enough activities to keep them busy for a long time. A stand out attraction for tourists and locals alike is the Dinner cruise in Sydney which is the ultimate waterfront dining experience where mouth-watering dishes meet breathtaking harbour views. You can choose from an array of cruises but the one that stays a cut above the rest is the multi-million dollar catamaran with three spacious outer decks, offering unique perspectives of the city skyline and its precincts! Take a stroll on these outer decks, enjoying the lit-up views, the night breeze and clicking awesome photographs! You can also choose a Sydney lunch cruise if you're a morning person and looking to enjoy the views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge with a freshly prepared buffet!

Cockatoo Island

Cockatoo Island was once a brutal penal colony and then dockyard and is one of the popular tourist hotspots in the harbour city. Boasting a wide range of aesthetic industrial relics, convict buildings, art installations and the like, this UNESCO World-heritage listed island has regular ferry services and was opened to the public in 2007. You could easily spend a day here and with a vibrant campground for camping and glamping facilities you can also spend a night here enjoying the views of the glittering harbour and cityscapes! There’s even two cafe-bars on the island but make sure to bring other necessities with you. Exploring the island’s relics is one way to spend time here and with audio guides and information boards, you can gain a deeper insight into how the island passed its phases as a prison, shipyard and a naval base. There are also other tour runs from the Visitors Centre including straight-up history tours to Ghostyard Paranormal and Convict Escape Attempts!

Art Galleries

With its neoclassical facade and contemporary rear, the Art Gallery of NSW represents a convivial and significant role in Sydney’s cultural society. Eye-catching international exhibitions are displayed here on the regular while the permanent collection is a fascinating blend of modern indigienous art, 19th century European and Australian art and a collection of 20th century Australian art. The cafe and restaurants are basically casual hangout spots with outdoor settings and views over the Woolloomooloo Bay. Right next to the art gallery, a new building, Sydney Modern, is being constructed and will be centred around a new indigenius art gallery and a dedicated space for major touring exhibitions.

Aboriginal Rock Art

Are you surprised that in a modern city like Sydney stumbling across an art that is so ancient is inevitable when the whole city was built on a giant gallery. Sydneysiders never paid attention until recently when they started to wake up to the treasure trail in their own backyard. Dot paintings from far-away deserts are now being celebrated and now you can look for Aboriginal Rock art by the original custodians of the land on the coast, around the harbour, and in nearby parks like Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.
