When hearing about screen printing, most people think about t-shirts and hoodies. However, this versatile technique of apparel decoration can be used to customize just about any type of apparel. Although clothing and accessories are some of the most common items, even products like pens and bottles can be screen printed.

If you make custom clothing and want to add something other than the regular t-shirt to your inventory, screen-printed polo shirts are a great option. As polos have a textured finish, they may not be the ideal choice for printing detailed designs or small logos. However, they work amazingly well with bigger text and simple images.

Start with the Right Polo Shirts

As you might know, there are diverse fabric choices for polo shirts wholesale. And when it comes to screen printing, you want the smoothest option out there. Cotton and polyester are considered the best fabrics for screen printing. Cotton is lightweight and easy to print on. But it might not be favored by all customers. Polyester wicks sweat away and are incredibly long-lasting. But it is not as breathable. Cotton/polyester blends are also a reliable option that blends the best features of both fibers together.

Determine Design Placement

Once you have your polos, you need to decide where you want to put the logo. If you want to add a logo to the front side of the polo shirt, try placing it on just one side of the chest area. Positioning it on the pocket works nicely for polo shirts with pockets. The design, in general, should be placed on the left part of the chest, about a few inches below the shoulder seam and from the center.

Don't forget to test print

Before you start to customize polo shirts in bulk, run a test print to ensure that the design works well with the product you have chosen. Many beginners overlook this aspect and end up printing a run with mistakes. Turning test printing into a habit will save you a lot of money and trouble in the long run. You will also be able to provide a customer with physical proof of the output.
