What Should You Know About Mechanism of Piezo Speaker

The Piezoelectric speaker or a piezo sounder produces sound same as speakers create. It converts the electrical signals to sound or audible beeps. This technology is primly used to produce electronic sounds from a microcontroller. It creates direct sound beeps and does not require any amplification circuit. Currently, a wide range of piezoelectric acoustic generator elements are being available in the market. Most of them are used as self-oscillating buzzers, ringers, receivers, and beepers. These acoustical transducers feature no RF noise. These are widely used in various applications for its compact and light weight yet simple designs. Generally these are used in manufacturing different types of household and industrial electronic appliances.
Types of Piezo Sounder:
There are two basic Piezoelectric Acoustic Generators, like - two-terminal and three-terminal type. Both these two types include a piezoelectric ceramic stuff which found mounted on a metal diaphragm. The metal diaphragm is usually made of stainless steel or brass like materials. The Structure of Piezo Speaker:
Mounting – The simple mounting method considered as the basic one and it uses the double-sided adhesive tapes. Through circumference fixing method, the nodal diameter fixed through the supporting ring. It features better sound pressure level compared to the simple mounting. But in nodal mounting process louder sound pressure attained as it fixes the nodal diameter to the plate’s supporting ring.
Sound Pressure Level – SPL has two segments i.e. Resonant Frequency (fr), and Resonant Impedance (Ro). The different sound pressure levels make piezo speaker fit for various applications.
Designing the Fixture – The sound pressure level considers three basic factors. The resonance frequency of the element majorly sets the sound output. While cavity resonance and resonance of sound body also affects the sound pressure in the piezoelectric acoustic element. To meet the loud sound requirement, the oscillation frequency fluctuation considered. The case design importantly changes the sound pressure.
Drive Circuits – Basically the drive circuits classified into 2 types as amplification type and oscillation type. The amplification type drive circuit amplifies and delivers input signal to the transducer. The transducer comprises a part of the circuit in cooperation with other active elements throughout the oscillation type.
The variants of transducer drive circuit three amplification types (Load Resistance, Complementary, and Load Inductance Type) and Oscillation Type has five variants (Blocking Oscillation, Multivibrator, CR Oscillation, 3-Terminal Buzzer, and IC Type).
Piezo Sounder Handling Instructions:
Some basic handling measures need to be followed with the intention of maximizing the quality of piezoelectric elements. Basically all the manufacturers instruct to avoid nonstop operating or storing it at high temperature and high humidity points. A single drop of water on the silver electrode area of the transducer can cause faults. Maximum soldering time could also affect the performance of the piezo speaker. Avoid leaching by using two percent silver solder while soldering.
