The Land Down Under is the ultimate antidote to the dreary winters for our friends up there in the Northern Hemisphere. Down here, we’re welcoming the summer joy and busy spreading the festive cheers, with the weather being as perfect as ever!

The holidays are fast approaching and the festive fevers are taking over the ‘Emerald City’ in a huge way! We may not have snow, but there’s a special joy in celebrating the holidays by lounging on the splendid beaches during the day and then heading to exclusive events or ice-skating rinks by night!

There’s no other time than summer to be in Sydney, so here are some of our favourite ways to make the most of this wonderful time of the year!

Blue skies, pristine waters and fine food

For a lot of folks, Xmas and the days that follow can be a period of exhaustion, especially when they cook holiday lunches and dinner for their family of 20! Boxing Day is the day after Xmas, and is a day to just lay back and relax, but still have quality time with the whole squad!

The go-to alternative to staying indoors is heading out, but how about you set the bar even higher by treating everyone to the popular Boxing Day Sydney Harbour cruises. The seats on these bad boys will give you front-row access to the annual yacht race, along with BYO food facilities & onboard bar.

Although most of ‘em are sold out by now, the Christmas lunch cruises are also a Sydney favourite during this time of the year. The best venue to celebrate Christmas Day outdoors – expect special Xmas menus, unlimited drinks, epic views and more!

A movie with a twist

With December making its much-awaited entry, it’s time to bring back the classics. Rom-coms are pretty fun to watch during this time of the year, especially when you are lounging on your couch with your better half. But sometimes there are experiences which you can’t enjoy on the television at home!

Level up your movie night with Love Actually in Concert, where you can watch the all-time classic with a live orchestra playing its soundtracks! Synonymous with watching it for the first time, the brilliant orchestra will bring the movie to life while being projected onto a huge screen! Honestly, we can’t think of a more romantic night!

De–light-ful trip

How can we even have a conversation about holidays in Sydney without the Christmas lights?! But for this year, we’re not suggesting you check out the installations at RBG, or the displays at Darling Harbour, or the light show at St.Mary’s Cathedral, instead off we go to Hunter Valley! With a 35m super slide, a massive walk-through bauble and a ferris wheel, the light spectacular here is spread over 14 hectares of garden space! And with Kids carols, Santas, hot chocolates and a love tunnel, you can easily plan a day out here in the countryside!

Bringing back the European vibes

Straight out of a French movie in the early 90’s, there’s a santa-approved holiday market in the CBD! From the curators of the Bastille Festival from 2021, this fully-fledged xmas market will be ruling the CBD for six magical nights. Expect everything from authentic wood huts, lights, snow, jazz music, french cuisines and everything else you need to feel like you have transported right to the Parisian streets! And if you haven't filled up the baskets for Christmas presents, you know where to look now!

Despite the lack of snow, the festive spirits are sky-high in Sydney as ever in other ‘white Christmas’ nations, and you have a variety of events leading up to and after the special day. So plan ahead for a wonderful December in Sydney!
