5 Resolutions You Should Include for the New Year
Posted: Dec 16, 2022
The new year is upon us and that means it’s time to start thinking about your New Year’s Resolutions! Now we all know, statistically, resolutions don’t do that great, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t set them. It just means you need to make smarter goals. If you want your goals to be effective then make them SMART.
S: Simple
M: Measurable
A: Achievable
R: Relevant
T: Time-related
Or you can ask yourself these questions when deciding on your resolutions: Is your goal clear? How will you know if you meet your goal? How will you reach your destination? Why does it matter? When will you accomplish it?
Now that we know how to make smart goals, here are five resolutions to consider adding to your personal list next year:
Set a financial goal
Money always has an impact on our lives so why not get ahead of the curve and feel confident in your finances for the upcoming year? The great thing about financial goals is they can be long term or short, saving or paying off debt, big or small–anything you do will make a difference!

Get organized
Or simplifying and decluttering. When we are not surrounded by chaos, we can manage our lives, work and family much more effectively. Science has even shown that when we feel at peace with our environment we are more at peace with ourselves. So work on getting your ducks in a row by getting organized.
Work on your physical wellness
Remember to make this a SMART resolution by being specific, measurable and achievable. If you just say you want to lose 30 pounds it’s unlikely your resolution will succeed. But if you break it down and state you want to work out for 30 minutes 3 times a week and drink 72 oz of water each day you now have a real plan to make it work.
Spend more time with family
If your family is not a priority in your life, you might want to look at your priorities. Spending true quality time together can be easier said than done with busy work schedules, practices, school functions, social events and more. So consider some of these manageable, relevant family goal ideas:
Eat dinner together x amount of nights
Plan a family vacation together
Volunteer as a family
Choose a family mission statement
Make progress in your career
Let’s be honest, we all spend a lot of time working. So why would we want to skip over our work lives when hoping for a successful new year? Personal work goals can cover all career fields, including the entrepreneur, stay at home mom, CEO, etc.Work resolutions can look like:
Find a career you love
Update your resume
Improve your management skills
Build your network
Create your own schedule
To have a goal is the first step in making a change in your life. And remember, these five impactful resolutions can change your life next year if you make them smart.
