Why My Eero Won’t Connect to Wi-Fi and How to Solve It
Posted: Aug 16, 2025
The Eero mesh Wi-Fi system is known for its ease of use and ability to provide strong, consistent coverage across your home. But like any technology, it’s not immune to occasional hiccups. One of the more frustrating issues users encounter is when their Eero won’t connect to Wi-Fi—either during initial setup or after it’s been working fine for a while. The good news is that this issue is usually fixable with a few simple troubleshooting steps.

When your Eero can’t connect to Wi-Fi, it’s important to understand what’s actually happening. Eero devices don’t just broadcast Wi-Fi—they also need a stable internet connection from your modem or gateway. If they can’t access that connection, your entire Eero network can appear offline, and your devices won’t be able to connect to the internet. This can show up as a red or blinking white light on the Eero, or it might simply fail during setup.
A common reason for Eero not connecting to Wi-Fi is a problem with your internet modem or the wired connection between the modem and your main Eero. If your modem isn’t online or isn’t passing the internet connection through properly, the Eero will fail to connect. Check that your modem is powered on and fully booted up. Look for normal status lights that indicate it’s receiving a signal from your ISP. If the modem itself is having issues, no amount of Eero troubleshooting will fix it until the modem is working.
Next, check the Ethernet cable connecting your Eero to the modem. It should be plugged securely into the correct port on both devices. A loose or damaged cable can prevent communication, even if everything else is working properly. If possible, try using a different Ethernet cable to rule out a hardware problem.
If your Eero device is already set up and was working previously but now won’t connect, try restarting both the modem and the Eero. Power off the modem first, then the Eero. Wait for a short time, then power the modem back on and allow it to fully reboot. Once the modem is online, plug the Eero back in. This often clears up temporary connectivity glitches.
For those setting up a new Eero device, failure to connect during setup is often tied to incorrect configuration or device interference. Make sure the Eero app on your phone has Bluetooth and location services enabled, as these are needed for the setup process. Follow the instructions in the app carefully, making sure your phone is near the Eero and that you’re connected to the internet with cellular data if Wi-Fi is not yet available.
If you’re using your Eero system behind another router or modem-router combo provided by your ISP, you may encounter double NAT or IP conflicts that interfere with connectivity. Eero is designed to be the main router on your network, so if you’re using it in bridge mode or have another router active, you may need to adjust your settings. In some cases, it helps to put your ISP’s modem-router into bridge mode or disable its Wi-Fi functionality to let Eero take full control of the network.
Another factor to consider is your Eero’s placement. If your Eero is too far from your modem or the other Eero devices in your mesh network, it might struggle to connect, especially if it’s relying on a wireless backhaul. Try placing your Eero units closer together, or if you’re using Ethernet for backhaul, double-check all wired connections.
Occasionally, the Eero app may display an error or show that the device is "not connected" even when everything appears physically correct. In this case, a soft reset can often resolve the problem. You can do this by unplugging the Eero for a minute and plugging it back in, or using the reset button on the device. This won’t erase your network but will allow the Eero to reboot and try reconnecting.
If all else fails, a factory reset might be necessary. This will remove all previous settings and allow you to set up the Eero as if it were brand new. Just be sure to have your login credentials and Eero app ready to go.
In rare cases, a hardware issue might be preventing the Eero from connecting. If your device is under warranty or you suspect it may be defective, contacting Eero support is the best next step.
A failure to connect to Wi-Fi can feel overwhelming, but most Eero issues stem from simple things like loose cables, modem problems, or minor misconfigurations. With a bit of patience and step-by-step troubleshooting, your Eero system can be up and running again, bringing reliable internet back to every corner of your home.
