Why choose Salzburg for a holiday? Well, this delightful Austrian city has an absolute wealth of attractions and activities to keep you busy! You can book fast and cost-effective transfers from Salzburg airport right into the city centre and start enjoying everything it has to offer. Here's what you can expect.

An eye-catching city

The first thing you’re going to notice is that the centre and old town are exceptionally picturesque. Magnificent Baroque and other period buildings are everywhere, and even on your transfers from Salzburg airport there’s a fair chance you’ll be reaching for your camera.

Then there’s its general geographic location. That relates to the fact that the city sits at the base of some staggeringly beautiful mountains that form a magnificent backdrop. This is a city that’s just so good on the eye it's almost surreal – and that’s one reason people love it at first sight.

For lovers of history

If you like poking around in ancient buildings and looking at where some very famous folk in the past lived and worked, the city will put ticks in all the boxes again. From the time you first set eyes on the Hohensalzburg Fortress towering over the town as you arrive on the transfers from Salzburg Airport, you’ll quickly grasp that there’s plenty to see. The cathedral and Altstadt (the old town) are a must, and in the old days you would have needed many rolls of film to do it justice. The area’s a UNESCO world heritage site and you’ll quickly understand why.

No discussion of the history of the city would be complete without making mention of Mozart. His birthplace and later family residence here are justifiably popular and again a ‘must-see’ for visitors.

For Gourmands

When you’re thinking of the top five countries in the world for cuisine, Austria probably isn’t going to spring to mind - but that’s a little unfair. The city has some very up-market restaurants, offering some of the best of world cuisine. Unfortunately, some of the best also offer world-class prices, too, but many, away from the prime spots, are much more reasonable. Try to find those that specialise in local Austrian cuisine, including things such as Kaspressknödel (fried cheese dumplings), Fleischkknödel (meat dumplings) and, of course, Wiener schnitzel.

Austrians typically have a very sweet tooth and excel in puddings. You should definitely try Bierkuchen (beer cake), Apfelstrudel (Apple Strudel), Salzburg Nockerl (sweet soufflé) and Gugelhupf cake (a lemon, vanilla and nuts iced cake).

By the time you’ve worked through some of those, your opinion of Austrian cuisine might have changed a lot – as possibly will your waistline!

For the cognoscenti

The city has a thriving cultural scene, including a very famous festival. It has numerous galleries and museums to visit and you’ll be able to soak up the feeling of artistic endeavour that permeates this town.

For the laid-back

Interesting as all the above diversions may be, sometimes it’s nice to just ‘drop out’ of the real world and simply observe life’s rich tapestry passing by. Paris may be world-famous for its café culture but Salzburg could run it close in a competition. Look in and around Alter Markt Square, where you’ll find one of the oldest coffee houses in Europe. You can simply sit back and contemplate the meaning of life for hours as you take in the incredible atmosphere and the superb coffee.

So, does this sound like the kind of place you'd like? Transfers from Salzburg airport will deliver you to one of Europe’s great treasures. It’s difficult to see how you could be anything other than charmed.
