Google is now exploding with information about almost everything and anything. Content marketing is on rise but still, people are hesitant to try any of the online marketing activity or too stubborn to give things more time, or they might have run into wrong SEO guy.

I have listed the 5 most common SEO myths that we marketers have to face with most of the prospects:

1- SEO is all about placing links to other websites

This is the most frustrating line ever, when people say that they know all about SEO and it is all about placing your link on other websites. While on the flip side, it is not the case. SEO has now evolved into something much bigger and brighter. An effective SEO campaign is integrated with Social media, Email, PR, PPC, Content Marketing and sometimes even with your outdoor campaign.

SEO involves real effort and commitment which often pays additional rewards beyond increasing traffic. Sadly, many business owners are being approached by less-ethical marketers who guarantee top rankings in just $50/month, it is almost certainly a scam.

2- PageRank

PageRank was introduced to allow Google measure the popularity of a website. Despite what people say, pagerank will still be a part of Google’s algorithm (although with firmly reduced influence)

Why PageRank is a bad myth?

  • It is easy to manipulate
  • PageRank correlates poorly with search rankings

Google has now moved from talking about PageRank or supporting it. Hopefully, this will lead to the end of people using PageRank for shady purposes such as selling links and scam services.

Fortunately, on the flip side, some other companies have developed useful link metrics including MozRank, Domain Authority and Ahrefs Rank.

3- Linkbuilding is bad/dead

Many folks misinterpreted when John Muller Of Google stated, link building is something he’d "try to avoid."

But this doesn’t mean that link building is bad or dead at all. The truth is, nothing has changed the fact that search engines use link authority and anchor text signals heavily as their search ranking algorithm.

Building links in natural ways will remain essential for any successful SEO campaign. White-hat link building is completely authentic and will always be a part of best online marketing practices.

4- PPC helps boost organic result

This is one the most common SEO conspiracy theory that we come across that spending on paid search ads will help business boost their organic results. We have seen brands spending millions of dollars per month to search engines for their paid campaigns but none of them has witnessed any effect on their organic searches.

Every search engine has maintain this separation and as long as it will exist, this assumption shall remain a myth.

5- Social media doesn't effect SEO

Social media really effect SEO in terms of search engine ranking, in terms of link building and in terms of audience building. Search engine optimization is now more or less towards community building and sharing information on website, where social media like facebook, twitter, Instagram and pintrest plays their role efficiently. You might have seen ranking on pinterest profiles on primary business keywords like car cupboard for kids and beach games for kids.

These simultaneously give boost to web page to rank on targeted keywords and often show who’s sharing that post in your contact list (mainly on Google+), providing with better opportunity to rank higher on relative keywords.
