Pecan Candies

Pecan candies have been a category in my personal food pyramid for many years now. In fact, I remember the first time I tasted one of my favorite pecan candies...pecan divinity. We were celebrating Thanksgiving at my grandparents’ home and my grandmother made her traditional tray of assorted candies. Pecan divinity happened to be one of the featured delicacies and I was eager to take my first bite. It was like my taste buds had been discovered for the first time and I remember getting a tummy ache after overindulging myself. The fluffy white texture reminded me of a cloud and I could actually picture myself in the clouds eating this amazing candy all day long. That’s right, there I was reclining on a chaise lounge chair that was floating on a cloud all the while having a steady supply of these pecan treats at my side and licking my fingers after every bite. At least that’s where my thoughts took me. Not only was the texture right up my alley, but it also had a way of melting in my mouth as soon as it hit my tongue. Being the fine southern woman that my grandmother was, she made sure that just the right amount of pecan pieces were dispersed within each little piece of candy. A few years after that memorable introduction I remember my sisters and I pulling up chairs around my grandmother’s kitchen counters and standing on the chairs to learn how to make her delicious candy. At the time my sisters and I were really better at taste testing the cooking process rather than offering much help to my grandmother, but we were learning none the less. Little did I know that years later those early years would have laid a foundation for the work I would do in my own business. I am happy to report that I enjoy making millican pecan company divinity even to this day. Of course, getting to sample an unlimited amount of pecan candies is just an added bonus and it pleases me that this tasty recipe has been passed down from my grandmother to me.
