Festival’s and Festive Seasons on the Indian Golden Triangle Tour

Festivals are definitive and celebrate not only spiritual but also dynamic ways of society over time. Some festivals reinforce the cultural progress of the community.

Ganesh Chartuthi – celebrating and worship of Lord Ganesha (Hinduism’s beloved Lord) and god of beginnings and remover of obstacles. This is observed by special prayers and after ten days the special idols immersed in rivers.

Navratri / Durga Puja – celebrated at to coincide with the harvest period for nine nights it symbolizes triumph of good over evil. It normally comes at the start of October.

Dussehra / Vijayadashami – celebrates Lord Rama’s victory over Ravan, a ten headed demon king. This festival celebrates the victory of goddess Durga over demon Mahishashur.

Eid-Al-Adha – Islamic sacrificial festival of slaughter of lambs and prayers in commemoration of Ibrahim’s obedience to sacrifice his son Ishmael after Allah’s command.

Karwa Chauth – observed by married women for the safety and long life of husbands from sunrise to moonrise normally on the fourth day after full moon.

Dhanteras – coming two days before Diwali as part of five day Diwali festival. Goddess Lakshmi is worshiped to provide wealth and wellbeing.

Narak Chaturdashi – celebrated on the second day of the festival of lights, Diwali denotes victory of Lord Krishna over demon king Narakasur.

Diwali and Lakshmi Puja – festival of lights and worship of goddess Lakshmi (goddess of wealth) is celebrated to as symbol of victory of good over evil.

Gowardhan Puja – celebrating worship of God Gowardhan believed controller of supreme nature and manifest as Lord Krishna.

Al-Hijra and Islamic New Calendar – celebrating Islamic New Year and start of holy pilgrimage of the prophet Mohammed from Mecca to Medina.

Bhaiya Dhooj – celebrated after Diwali it’s celebrates the brother and sister bond.

Chhath Puja – thanking Lord Surya for sustaining life and asking for good wishes from the Lord especially prosperity, well being and development.

Muharram – first month of the Islamic calendar meaning forbidden and time of remembering Musa’s victory over the Egyptian Pharaoh and asked by Prophet Muhammad to Pray on the day.

Day of Ashura – commemorates martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson at battle of Karbala on 10th day of Muharram.

Guru Nanak Jayanti – celebrates birth of Sikhism’s most revered Guru Nanak.

Christmas Day – celebrates the birth of Lord Jesus Christ at Bethlehem of Judah.

Guru Govind Singh Jayanti – celebrates the birth of 10th guru of Sikhism.
