Top Tips for Getting Around Menorca

A Cala Galdana holiday is hard to top when it comes to relaxation. Located on the beautiful Spanish island of Menorca, this resort is widely considered to be one of the most spectacular coves in the western part of the Mediterranean. Nestled between the water and the high cliffs that shelter the cove from the wind, the sweeping bay offers a fantastic setting for a relaxing holiday escape.

While on a Cala Galdana holiday, most people find everything they need is close by, with great access to entertainment, restaurants, and activities directly on site. However, for those interested in dividing up their beach and leisure time with some sightseeing, there is a variety of ways visitors can get around the island. From buses to bikes to car hire, getting around Menorca can be part of the pleasure of adventure.

Option #1: Bus

The main bus stations on Menorca are in Mahon/Maó and Ciutadella, from where visitors can find bus connections to various sights, villages, and parks across the island. Taking an afternoon trip to either of these cities (Mahon or Ciutadella) is easy. To visit Mahon for lunch and a bit of sightseeing, hop on the bus to Mahon at 10.20, and get the return bus at 16.15. There are also several buses running every day to Ciutadella (at 10.00, 11.20, 13.50, 17.20) with travel time of 35 minutes making this a great short trip from Cala Galdana. Holiday-makers here will find more bus information at the Menorca Guide website.

Option #2: Car Rentals

A fair bit of the island can be seen by bus, but you have to do some research before hand and stick to a schedule or you might find yourself stranded somewhere for longer than you had hoped. Quite a few people choose to rent a car while staying at Cala Galdana. Holiday car rentals provide the freedom to create your own timetable, and be a bit spontaneous with your itinerary. Menorca is not a very large island, allowing drivers the opportunity to see a lot of the landscape in a short span of time. Also, there are many coves and beautiful vistas not on the normal routes for the public buses, and the only way to get there is by foot or car.

Option #3: Bicycle

While staying in this delightful resort, you'll have access to some great outdoor sporting activities, including cycling. Since it's very hilly, it can be difficult to get very far if you're not an experienced road cyclist, but cycling is a great way to get around the resort and to explore the nearby coves. One such delightful place is the cove and amazing beach of Cala Mitjana – a great option if you want to get away from the crowds.
