Advertising Techniques In India

Posted: Jul 04, 2014
The domain of advertising has now become a critical form of communication for a business. In order to get your message across to the consumer, it is imperative that an organisation keeps a separate budget for advertising alone. Earlier advertising was restricted to print and television. But with the advent of the Internet, online ads have become the order of the day. The internet by itself provides the advertiser several options in the form of sponsored websites, social networking sites, videos and so on. There are several Advertising Techniques in India which are used by advertisers. Let us look at some of them.
- Print Advertising: Advertisements that are printed on newspapers, booklets, magazines, flyers or postal mail come under the banner of print advertising. Ads in newspapers have a greater reach and are also one of the most effective advertising techniques in India.
- Guerrilla Advertising: This is a form of advertising that has come into vogue over the last two decades. Usually, this type of advertising is more interactive as it allows the consumer to participate or interact with the adverting company’s service or product. However, two important factors here are location and timing, rather than budget, which is important in print or TV ads. Coca Cola’s Happiness vending machine or advertising using flash mobs are some good examples of Guerilla advertising or marketing.
- Broadcast Advertising: This is the best advertising technique suited to reach the masses. The best media for this are television and radio.
- Outdoor Advertising: This is a general term used to describe any type of advertising that reaches the consumer when they are out of their homes. Examples include billboards, posters or vehicles with the product’s banner displayed.
- Public Service Advertising: Unlike regular commercials, these types of advertisements are mainly used for the purpose of information or education, rather than for selling a product or service. An example of this could be the polio vaccine administration advert on TV or in the newspapers.
- Product Placement Advertising: Sometimes, some advertisements are done in an implicit way by showing the branded product in a movie or a show or a TV soap. This is known as product placement advertising.
- Mobile and Online Advertising: This type of advertising uses mobile phones, tablets, smartphones and other electronic devices with Internet connectivity. These involve ads posted on social networking sites such as Twitter or Facebook, or ads on the seller’s website.
