Sync Google Calendar With Outlook; Here’s How
Posted: Sep 12, 2019
Microsoft and Google dominate the world of computers and the internet. Microsoft provides a variety of tools for computers. Such tools range from its most popular operating system for computers named Microsoft Windows to highly useful productivity tools such as Microsoft Office. One of the most important parts of Office is Microsoft Outlook.
Google dominates the online space. The two most popular offerings are Google Search and an email service named Gmail. Google seeks to compete with Outlook by offering Google Calendar and Tasks.
As Competitors, neither firm offers an easy method to sync Google Calendar with Microsoft Outlook. However, it doesn’t mean that syncing between the two is not possible. Here’s how you can do it:-
Option 1?—?Use G-Suite Sync
This option is provided by Google itself. Google offers a syncing tool for Outlook for Windows and it is called G-Suite Sync for Microsoft Outlook. It is designed to offer the capability to synchronize Gmail, Google Contacts, and Google Calendar with Outlook. This tool is not free and requires a monthly subscription to G Suit. What does this mean? Those of you who have a free Google account cannot use this product.
If you happen to be a paid G-Suite user, first of all, download G Suite Sync and install it on your computer. Remember to close Microsoft Outlook before installing it. During the course of the installation, you will be asked to sign in to your Google account. Go ahead and provide it your sign-in credentials. You will then be asked to grant G Suite Sync the permission to access your data. Once you grant the permission, the application will be fully installed and you’d just need to configure a few settings thereafter.
G-Suite Sync cannot sync to your existing Mail and Calendar folder. It requires that you create a new G-Suite profile and ‘Import data from an existing profile’. From that time on, you must use the G-Suite profile and not your normal Outlook Calendar.
Option 2?—?Subscribe to any Google Calendar in Outlook
One thing you can do in Outlook is to subscribe to your Google Calendar. There is no cost for this. However, it is only a one-way data transfer. It doesn’t allow you to add or edit Google Calendar appointments from inside Outlook. Let’s see how to set it up:-
Open Google Calendar, move the cursor over to the sidebar and find the calendar you’d like to add to Outlook. Click on the three vertical dots appearing beside that calendar and a drop-down menu will appear. From that menu, click ‘Settings and sharing’. This will open the settings of your calendar. Scroll down and find the ‘Integrate Calendar’ section. There you’ll find an option titled ‘Secret address in iCal format’. This will be a URL. Copy it and then open Outlook. In Outlook, go over to the Calendar section and click ‘Open Calendar’. A drop-down menu will appear from where you’ve to click on ‘From the Internet’. A window will be shown that will ask you to "Enter the location of the internet calendar you want to add to Outlook". Paste the copied URL here and click ‘OK’. That’s it! Your calendar will show up in Outlook.
For adding more than one calendar, you’ll have to repeat these steps for every calendar. A word to remember; this is a one-way transfer. The appointments you add in Google will definitely reflect in Outlook but you won’t be able to add or edit your appointments in Outlook.
Option 3?—?Use CompanionLink to sync Google Calendar with Outlook
By far the easiest method is to use a 3rd party product like CompanionLink. A company like CompanionLink is not in the position of competing with either Google or Microsoft and can focus on making an easy system that will automatically synchronize your Contacts, Calendar, and Tasks.
CompanionLink offers Google Outlook sync in the form of its immensely useful application named‘CompanionLink for Google’. This application will automatically sync your data two-ways between Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook. It works with iCloud, Exchange, IMAP, and Pop3 folders and supports Outlook 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2019 and Office 365. Moreover, it does not require Google Apps and works with any Google Account.
CompanionLink for Google is a one-time purchase for a portable license. Just one purchase is needed for three PCs (work, home, and laptop). A 90-day money-back guarantee from CompanionLink sweetens the deal even further. If you find your time valuable and wish to automatically synchronize from Outlook to Google and your Mobile Phone, CompanionLink for Google provides a fast and ways solution.
