Top Places to Dine in Son Bou

In what concerns the global scope of European beach resorts, Menorca is a bit of an odd one out. Far from the flash and party-hearty atmosphere of resorts in Turkey, southern Spain and other major tourist hubs across the Old Continent, the smallest of the Balearic islands stands out for offering the exact opposite of that – a peaceful, quiet atmosphere, perfect for families, older holidaymakers or simply those wanting a non-party-centric type of holiday in a delightful Son Bou villa.

However, being unassuming, quaint and peaceful by no means implies a lack of infra-structures or services. While Menorca may only have one large shopping region, guests staying in a Son Bou villa will find that the island is nowhere near lacking in any of the other areas relevant to a good holiday experience.

A perfect example of this is food. While places to eat don’t exactly abound in the resort, those that do exist offer a good range and level of quality.

Something For Everyone

The resort area around Son Bou boasts four restaurants, each of which has a distinct personality and style of menu, and all of which are easily accessible on foot from pretty much any Son Bou villa. Foodies looking to try the different types of meal the island has to offer will no doubt appreciate the chance to taste different types of dishes - from island specialities to universal favourites, at a very reasonable price.

Perhaps the best known of these restaurants is Casa Andres. Offering a varied menu, often praised by tourists, this location makes up for its somewhat drab exterior by providing guests with several dietary options, including vegetarian, and coupling them with a friendly and attentive staff. The paella and the T-bone steak are highlights in this restaurant’s menu, and reason enough for tourists visiting the area to give it a try.

Those who would rather play it a little bit safer can opt to dine at the Mai Tai. As the name indicates, cocktails are the forte of this establishment, but those looking for a hearty pub meal will not feel left out, either. Their burgers are a particular standout, and rather reasonably priced, especially for an island resort; throw in a bouncy castle to keep children entertained, and this cocktail bar and pub asserts itself as a valid option for a pleasant evening out.

Finally, there are a couple of beach bars and cafes where families can enjoy a simple meal while looking out over the beach to the clear blue ocean. The Sunset Bar and the Chiringuito Oasis are both sure to delight families staying in a Son Bou villa, and can constitute a great alternative for a lighter meal in the middle of a day of beach fun.

While it must be said that eateries here are unassuming and limited in number, their scope and quality are unlikely to disappoint.
