3 Easy Pinoy Merienda Faves You Can Make in 30 Minutes
Posted: Oct 18, 2020
The longest lockdown in the world has made Filipinos spend lots of hours having fun in the kitchen. After all, the typical Pinoy diet eats four times a day!
If you're looking for new dishes to cook, here are three Pinoy merienda ideas you can make in less than 30 minutes.
Corn & Cheese Puto
Ingredients
2 cups rice flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup powdered milk
1 1/4 cups fresh milk
1/2 cup creamed corn
1 large egg
1/8 cup salted butter, melted, more for greasing the molds
1/2 cup sweet kernel corn, drained
1/2 cup Danes Cheese Spread
Who could say no to the creamy, cheesy goodness of steamed puto? Not us! This Pinoy favorite is made with rice flour and is commonly sold in wet markets.
Cooking puto doesn't take too long to make. You'd only have to mix all the ingredients until it's smooth before ladling the mixture into the greased molds, then steaming them for about 10 minutes. The droplets produced by the steam can then be caught over by placing a clean towel over the molds and across the rim.
One of the most popular puto flavors are corn and cheese. This salty-sweet combo achieves the perfect balance of flavors and will leave you wanting more!

Banana Cheese TuronIngredients
12 large lumpia wrappers, separated
6 bananas, sliced in half lengthwise
12 sticks Danes Cheese Block Classic, frozen
1 cup brown sugar, more as needed
Cooking oil, for shallow frying
Turon is, perhaps, one of the most iconic Pinoy merienda staples—and for a good reason. It's quick, easy, and always accessible!
Making turon is all about folding the wrapper properly. Neat folds keep the fillings secured while frying, leaving you with nothing but a crunchy, yummy treat.
If you have a bunch of bananas in your pantry, you can put them to good use with this upgraded turon recipe. We recommend adding Danes Cheese Block Classic to add a creamy, tangy kick to every bite!

Pinsec FritoIngredients
1/2 kilo ground pork
250g Holiday Cheesedog regular, chopped
1 medium singkamas, chopped finely
1 medium carrot, chopped finely
1 medium white onion, chopped finely
1 stalk green onions, chopped finely
2 tbsps sesame oil
2 tbsps oyster sauce
1 egg, beaten
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
square molo wrappers, 3-inch in size
cooking oil, for deep-frying
Fried dumplings may be common in Filipino street food, but there's one that particularly stands out: Pinsec Frito. Based on the Castilian Spanish term meaning 'fried wonton,' these crispy potstickers are shaped into tiny triangles to become delicious finger food.
Pinsec Frito also doesn't need complicated folds compared to its Chinese counterpart. Each piece is locked by wetting the sides with water before pressing them to make a triangle. After that, you can deep-fry the whole batch until golden brown and serve with sweet and sour sauce.
The best thing about pinsec frito is that you can use any fillings that you want. You can go for a more traditional route with ground pork, veggie-fy the mix with diced singkamas, or even add Holiday Cheesedog to spruce it up!
