The Best Easter Traditions to Try in 2022

Posted: Feb 18, 2022

This holiday marks rebirth and new life, and there are so many exciting ways to celebrate it. Here are our favorite picks for Easter traditions for 2022!
1. An Easter Tree
First, use a few Easter ornaments (or plastic eggs with string) and have the kids find small branches from outside. Then, place those sticks in a vase and decorate the "tree" with your egg ornaments. It will keep the kids busy, serve as a fun homemade decoration, and clean up your yard!
2. Easter Eggs
Every child LOVES to dye eggs. We’ve used store dyes and also had fun making our own dyes out of food and juice we have around the house. Plus, this long standing tradition can be made more unique by using wooden eggs and paint pens or watercolors. The wooden eggs can even be used from year to year.
3. Hidden Easter Basket
Get creative with Easter morning and hide their baskets. Make a scavenger hunt with clues to direct the kids or leave letters in eggs that spell out the location of the baskets. With just a little extra work, you’ll be able to extend the fun and create something the kids will look forward to!

4. Easter Picnic
If you’d like a lighter meal that gets you outside, opt for an annual picnic! Take outside toys, a blanket, and fun sandwiches. Then, just enjoy being outdoors together!
5. Roll Eggs
Get the competitive spirit going and find a few eggs you don’t mind parting with. Have a contest to see whose egg will roll down the hill first. This is a fun game that will keep everyone in good spirits during the day. A variation is the egg/spoon race. See who can make it to the finish line without dropping and cracking the egg.
6. Easter Photo
Easter is one of the few times of the year when everyone is dressed up, so take advantage with an annual picture. And if you’re like me, who always forgets, take one at night when the kids are all melting down from the long day! My husband and I still laugh at our unique but "real" Easter photos.
7. Resurrection Rolls
Each ingredient and step in making these rolls is a part of Christ’s burial and resurrection. It’s a hands on way to teach the story of how Easter came to be. You can find lots of simple recipes online.
8. Easter Movies
Have you ever seen Hop? It’s an adorable movie about the Easter bunny (and following your heart) that we enjoy yearly. The kids love it and request it as soon as it starts looking like spring.
9. Flowers
Celebrate new life in a special way by planting flowers every year. Commit to planting something on Easter or put seeds in the kids’ baskets. After a few years, the kids will get really creative with what they plant!
10. Bunny Evidence
Kids love seeing Easter bunny magic, so leave a carrot out to be nibbled on, or sift powdered sugar around a bunny track stencil. If you want to get silly, leave behind a few tootsie rolls or Hershey kisses. The kids will be ecstatic to see it!
11. Glow In The Dark Egg Hunt
Need to add a little spice to your Egg Hunt? Use plastic eggs and glow sticks to light up your eggs. Then make the room dark and watch the kids feverishly find glowing eggs. This is a great twist as the kids get older!
12. Fly Kites
My kids love flying kites, but it never seems like the right time to go. Make a tradition to gift them with a kite every year, and go out before or after Easter brunch. It will get everyone outside and having fun.
13. Egg Smashing
Finally, many countries celebrate the tradition of "egg tapping" or "egg smashing." Two opponents tap their hard-boiled eggs into each other and the egg that remains intact wins!
I hope you loved these creative Easter traditions! Have fun with your family this year!
